Goodnight Amy

I was deeply saddened at the news of the death of Amy Winehouse last weekend.  I followed her career right from the beginning and remember a beautiful, curvaceous, young girl with a wit and intelligence way beyond her years.  I simply adore the two albums she produced, full of raw emotion, pathos, great lyrics and that distinctive, wonderful voice.  She kick started a flagging, British music scene, paving the way for a new breed of talented, young songstresses who can sing and write wonderful lyrics; Adele, Duffy, Lily, Paloma and Joss, spring to mind.  Her troubles with drugs, drink and destructive relationships have been well documented, I hoped she could kick the cycle of addiction but it was not to be.  Her legacy will be her music and the two fabulous albums she produced which in my opinion are masterpieces.  I prefer to remember Amy as she was before the harrowing images of an addicted and distressed young woman started to appear in the tabloid press. Goodbye Amy, rest in peace.

  1. It's nice to see her healthy and happy ... not entirely unexpected but sad.

  2. Such a big loss, though I, like most everyone, am not very surprised.

I don't think I've ever seen her in an interview. I liked her response to the question about people trying to shape her...so cute and endearing.

Thank you for sharing this clip.

  8. Thank you Dash, I had never seen this clip. Everything you say is true, she should have stayed with us much longer, such talent.
    No creation without pain?

  9. Dash, I'm afraid that with all of the focus on this crowding out the news about Norway, the high speed rail crash in China, and the pending default of the US Government, I have been more annoyed than saddened by Amy Winehouse.
But, your post is lovely and I linked to it.

  14. So sad. I think we all hoped she would be able to breaks the bonds that tied her to the world of addiction and destruction but clearly that was not to be.

  15. Wasn't she quite lovely when she wasn't an emaciated drug addict? What a complete waste of a great talent ;-(

Great post Dash - not been able to comment, but hopefully today will be ok *crosses fingers*

  16. Hello Dash - nice to meet you and a sad, tragic event.

So young, so talented, so addicted and the addiction won.
