She is much smaller than her big Sister, she is a small scale model of the original, made from cast iron and covered in gold leaf, on her base she bears the signature of Bartholdi, she has been standing proudly and quitely above a fresh water fountain in the main square known as Portalis, in the small, attractive coastal town of St Cyr-sur-Mer, in the Var department of France since 1913. You cannot help but notice her, whilst enjoying the liberty of taking a coffee or an apertif in one of the cafes she shares the square with. Today, she represents her big Sister, I suspect not one soul who gazes upon her, cannot do so without thinking about New York.
I think we are all spiritually there today xx
ReplyDeleteThanks, Dash. She's lovely, too.
ReplyDeleteA beautiful tribute, Dash
ReplyDeleteOur prayers join yours. Helen xx
Miss Liberty has "sisters" in the most unusual places... Someone else blogged about the Paris one this morning. I agree with you, Dash. Everyone's thoughts are in NYC today. Veronique (French Girl in Seattle)
ReplyDeleteSuch a thoughtful post, Dash. Thank you. And yes, I can see that the sisters do resemble each other. The one I know, this one's big sister, has aged beautifully. And every time I see her I think of France and say 'Thank You' for giving us such a very beautiful gift.
ReplyDeleteLovely post, Dash.
ReplyDeleteYou always hit the right note.
ReplyDeleteI have been avoiding newspapers and television all day.
I loathe the word "class" more than Madonna loathes hydrangeas but...
you are a class act.
X David
Oh, how cool! I new there were others (smaller, of course) but I'd never seen photos or anything. You're so right...my first thoughts are of New York!
