When The Jasmine Is High
The Jasmine is out out the moment it is glorious, I love it and have planted lots of evergreen and deciduous varieties in my garden. The flowers light up at dusk and look like thousands of little stars and the fragrance just wafts all over the garden, with the windows open it is permeating the house. I have been languid every afternoon as I lie on a chaise longue, watching Wimbledon, I get sudden bursts of it's beautiful fragrance and in the late evening, outside, draining the last of a fine bottle, with friends, the fragrance is still working it's magic on all our senses.

Is there any better fragrance on the planet??
ReplyDeleteI have seen these often around Southern California, and looked up some time ago to find out that they were a type of Jasmine. Those little white blossoms are everywhere, and I love the scent in the air.
ReplyDeleteI also love a good jasmine green tea.
Love Jasmine.. seeing it reminds me of summer.. which I am missing terribly at present.. Enjoy yours!!! xxx Julie
ReplyDeleteI was wondering what scent to burn today and you just cleared that dilemma up for me Dash :-)
ReplyDeleteJasmine it is.
I was jogging the other day through the woods and the scent of the wild honeysuckle was just out of this world.

I can almost catch the scent from here~ just gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteMy dar, what a lovely selection of pictures! Jasmine is one of my all time favourite flowers. When I was young, my mother used to pick the flowers and put them under the pillows so that I can easily fall asleep and the next morning, you wake up with beautiful smell.
ReplyDeleteI've been busy lately with work and I have a lot of catching up to do with your posts!!
Love jasmine too, and honeysuckle. My jasmine plant almost died a death this winter, I'm not sure why, but it's revived itself again and starting from scratch. I'm not sure I'll get any flowers this year.
ReplyDeleteThe honeysuckle, on the other hand was simply gorgeous. It's obviously much hardier than the jasmine.
Jasmine and Honeysuckle...the fragrance of Summer.
ReplyDeleteA short while ago, I was feeling nostalgic for wisteria (from my days of living in Britain) and for hydrangea (from my days of living in Japan), as I wrote on my blog, Seen the Elephant, which btw links to yours.
ReplyDeleteBut it was the intense blue and purple colors I was missing. I wasn't thinking scent.
Now, having read the latest reports of the terrible oil smells permeating Florida's Emerald Coast, I think I'll go in search of jasmine. Just what the doctor ordered. Thank you for putting that idea into my head!
p.s. You and other Francophiles might be interested in a Q&A I just now posted w/ a woman, an old friend, who loves the French language but not France. She has come to prefer French-speaking Africa to France. Would love to get your comments! :-)
ReplyDeletep.p.s. I'm new to the blogging world, so forgive me if this p.s. comes across as shameless self-promotion. I'm simply trying to reach out to some kindred spirits...
Smells like heaven, doesn't it? My dad has several - I love it!
ReplyDeleteAs usual I stick out like a sore thumb in your comments section.
ReplyDeleteThe only scent I get from an open window here in NYC is that of diesel exhaust.
While I enjoyed your photos, the mental images you painted in my mind's eye with your words were enough to intoxicate me.
I have to get on the subway now.
X David
Jasmine is one of those amazing perfumes you feel you want drink in. Yours looks beautiful
ReplyDeleteSharon
I'm looking forward to the jasmine flowering again here, but in the meantime I'll gaze at yours. That last photo is really beautiful Dash.
ReplyDeleteThat brought back the memories...I had jasmine against the wall under our bedroom window in our last house...so why didn't I plant it here!
ReplyDeleteDear Dash, your jasmine looks beautiful. It is my absolute favourite summer smell. Mine is in flower and you can smell it in the house. It's so lovely. Hope you're having a great week and thank you so much for your amazing comments on the Christos interview. I was very touched. Love C xx
ReplyDeleteDash - just a quickie to say thank you for stopping by m'blog again! I appreciate it :-)
ReplyDeleteWill I come back from Art School with a new Boho attitude and, even better, two armfuls of statement bangles?!

I love the scent of jasmine. There is a little spot in the woods by our house that is filled with jasmine. I go by there almost daily.
ReplyDeleteLove the scent of Jasmine. Its a very popular fragrance in my part of the world. We make garlands of Jasmine for our hair!
ReplyDeleteI missed this post somehow Dash, and I love gardens as you know. I adore Jasmin and have been trying to grow it, but not to great success sadly. In my old house which was only ten miles away but lower in altitude it was fine, nothing quite like Spanish Jasmin but lovely.
ReplyDeleteWe can get really cold winters up here with frosts that dont lift for weeks, yet I had a wonderful honeysuckle growing on the south side of the house. I may try planting a Jasmin here ..I wish we had "Smelly -vision"
Love Ruth xx
